Navigation Lights
Navigation lights are a set of lights that are required to be displayed on a vessel underway between sunset and sunrise and during periods of restricted visibility. These lights help other vessels determine the type, size, and direction of the vessel, and take necessary actions to avoid collision. The navigation lights include red and green sidelights, a white masthead light, a stern light, and additional lights for larger vessels. The sidelights indicate the port (red) and starboard (green) sides of the vessel, the masthead light is displayed at the top of the mast and indicates the direction of the vessel, and the stern light is displayed at the stern and indicates the presence of the vessel. The lights must be visible from a certain distance and at certain angles, and their positioning and color must comply with international regulations.
