Lyle Gun

A Lyle gun is a type of small cannon used to shoot a line from a ship in distress to a rescue vessel. It was invented by David Lyle in the late 1800s and was commonly used by the United States Life-Saving Service and later the United States Coast Guard. The Lyle gun was an important tool for rescuing sailors from shipwrecks and other maritime disasters, as it allowed rescuers to establish a line between the two vessels and safely transport people and supplies. The Lyle gun was eventually replaced by more modern rescue equipment, but it remains an important part of maritime history.
