Waist

In naval architecture, the waist is the narrowest part of a ship's hull, located amidships between the forecastle and the quarterdeck. It is the part of the ship where the sides curve inwards towards the keel before curving outwards again to form the bottom of the ship. The waist is an important area for stability as it is where the ship's center of gravity is located. In addition, it is often used as a location for storing cargo or equipment. The term 'waist' can also refer to the area of a ship's deck between the forecastle and quarterdeck, where crew members can move around the ship.
