Selective Catalytic Reduction

Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is a technology used in marine engines to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. The process involves injecting a urea-based solution into the exhaust stream, which then reacts with the NOx in the presence of a catalyst to form harmless nitrogen and water vapor. SCR is a highly effective method of reducing NOx emissions, with reductions of up to 95% achievable. It is commonly used in large marine engines, such as those found in cargo ships and cruise liners, to comply with increasingly stringent emissions regulations.
