Nitrogen Oxide

Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) is a term used to describe a group of highly reactive gases, which are formed when fuel is burned at high temperatures in the presence of nitrogen. In the maritime context, NOx emissions are a major concern due to their harmful effects on the environment and human health. NOx emissions from ships are regulated by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) through the MARPOL Annex VI regulations. The regulations set limits on the amount of NOx that can be emitted from ship engines, and require the use of technologies such as Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) to reduce emissions.
