Ocean Fertilization

Ocean fertilization is a geoengineering technique that involves adding nutrients, such as iron, to the ocean to stimulate the growth of phytoplankton. The idea behind this technique is that phytoplankton absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during photosynthesis, and when they die, they sink to the ocean floor, taking the carbon with them. This process is known as carbon sequestration and is seen as a potential way to mitigate climate change. However, the effectiveness and potential environmental impacts of ocean fertilization are still being studied and debated.
