Navigational Instruments

Navigational instruments are devices used by navigators to determine the position, speed, direction, and other important information related to the ship's movement. These instruments include compasses, sextants, GPS receivers, radar, depth sounders, and electronic chart display and information systems (ECDIS). Compasses are used to determine the ship's direction relative to magnetic north, while sextants are used to measure the angle between the horizon and celestial objects to determine the ship's latitude and longitude. GPS receivers use satellite signals to determine the ship's position, while radar is used to detect other vessels and obstacles. Depth sounders measure the depth of the water beneath the ship, and ECDIS displays electronic charts and provides real-time information about the ship's position and movement.
