Transverse Bulkhead

A transverse bulkhead is a wall-like structure that runs perpendicular to the centerline of a ship, dividing the vessel into separate compartments. These bulkheads are an essential part of a ship's structural integrity, providing support and stability to the hull. In the event of a collision or grounding, transverse bulkheads help to contain flooding and prevent the ship from sinking. They also serve as fire barriers, helping to prevent the spread of flames and smoke throughout the ship. Transverse bulkheads are typically made of steel and are designed to withstand the pressure of water and other forces that may act upon them.
