Topping Lift

A topping lift is a line or rope that is used to support the boom when the sail is not in use. It runs from the end of the boom to the top of the mast, and is used to lift the boom up and out of the way. This prevents the boom from swinging around and potentially causing damage to the boat or injuring crew members. The topping lift can also be used to adjust the height of the boom, which can be useful when sailing downwind. It is an essential part of the rigging on many sailboats, and is particularly important on boats with large, heavy booms.
