Refrigerant

A refrigerant is a substance or mixture, usually a fluid, that is used in a refrigeration cycle to extract heat from a low-temperature space and reject it to a high-temperature space. In the maritime context, refrigerants are commonly used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems on ships to maintain the temperature of cargo, provisions, and living spaces. Refrigerants used in marine applications must be non-toxic, non-flammable, and have low ozone depletion potential (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP) to comply with international regulations. Common refrigerants used in the maritime industry include R-134a, R-404A, and R-407C.
