Forestay

A forestay is a standing rigging component of a sailing vessel that helps to support the mast and control its bend. It is a wire or rod that runs from the top of the mast to the bow of the boat, and it is typically attached to the mast with a turnbuckle and to the bow with a chainplate. The forestay helps to keep the mast in the correct position and prevents it from falling backwards. It also helps to control the shape of the mainsail and jib, and it can be adjusted to suit different wind conditions and sail configurations.
