Flemish Down

Flemish Down is a type of anchor that was commonly used in the 19th century. It is a large, heavy anchor with a stock that is perpendicular to the flukes. The stock is designed to dig into the seabed and provide a holding force that keeps the ship in place. Flemish Down anchors were typically made of iron and were used on large sailing ships. They were particularly useful in rough weather conditions, as they provided a secure hold even in strong winds and heavy seas.
