Dagger Plank

A dagger plank is a short plank that is fitted between the garboard (the first plank laid next to the keel) and the next plank above it on a wooden ship. It is used to provide additional support to the planking and to help prevent hogging (the bending of the keel and hogging of the deck). The dagger plank is typically thicker than the other planks and is tapered towards the ends. It is also sometimes called a 'stealer plank'.
