Hogging

Hogging is a term used to describe the deformation of a ship's hull when the center or keel is lower than the bow and stern. This can occur when a ship is overloaded or when it is sailing in heavy seas. The weight of the cargo or the force of the waves causes the center of the ship to bend upwards, putting stress on the hull and potentially causing damage. Hogging can be prevented by ensuring that a ship is properly loaded and by avoiding sailing in rough weather conditions. If a ship is found to be hogging, it may need to be unloaded or repaired before it can safely continue its voyage.
