Viscosity
Viscosity is a measure of the resistance of a fluid to flow. In maritime context, it is an important property of lubricating oils and fuels used in marine engines. Viscosity affects the ability of the oil or fuel to flow through the engine and lubricate the moving parts. If the viscosity is too low, the oil or fuel may not provide adequate lubrication, leading to increased wear and tear on the engine. If the viscosity is too high, the oil or fuel may not flow properly, leading to reduced engine performance and increased fuel consumption. Viscosity is typically measured in units of centistokes (cSt) or Saybolt Universal Seconds (SUS).
