Tween-deck
In maritime context, tween-deck refers to the space between two decks of a ship, especially a cargo vessel, where cargo is stowed. It is the space between the main deck and the hold or between two decks below the main deck. Tween-deck is used to maximize the cargo-carrying capacity of a ship. It is often used to carry heavy and bulky items such as machinery, vehicles, and timber. The tween-deck is usually accessed by a hatch and ladder system. Proper ventilation and drainage are necessary to prevent damage to the cargo. The term tween-deck is also used to refer to the deck itself.
