SOx Emissions
SOx emissions refer to the release of sulfur oxides into the atmosphere as a result of burning fossil fuels, particularly high-sulfur content fuels such as heavy fuel oil, by ships. These emissions contribute to air pollution and can have negative impacts on human health and the environment. In order to reduce SOx emissions, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has implemented regulations that require ships to use fuels with lower sulfur content or to install exhaust gas cleaning systems, also known as scrubbers, to remove sulfur from the exhaust gases before they are released into the atmosphere.
