Slack Water

Slack water is a short period in a body of tidal water when the water is completely unstressed, and there is no movement either way in the tidal stream. This period occurs before the direction of the tidal stream reverses. During slack water, the water is almost still, and the tide height is at its highest or lowest point. The duration of slack water varies depending on the location and can last from a few minutes to several hours. It is an important time for mariners to navigate through narrow channels or anchor their vessels safely. The term slack water is also used to describe the point at which a river's current is neither ebbing nor flowing.
