Sing Out
Sing Out is a distress signal used by mariners to indicate that they require immediate assistance. It is a call for help and is used when a vessel or its crew is in danger or distress. The signal is usually made by radio, but it can also be made by other means such as flares, flags, or sound signals. When a vessel receives a Sing Out distress signal, it is required by international law to provide assistance to the distressed vessel if it is able to do so without endangering its own safety. Failure to provide assistance to a vessel in distress is considered a serious offense in the maritime community.
