Shear Line

In naval architecture, the shear line is an imaginary line that marks the transition between the upper deck and the hull of a ship. It is the line along which the deck and the hull meet. The shear line is an important design element as it affects the aesthetics and the hydrodynamics of the ship. The shape of the shear line can influence the ship's stability, speed, and maneuverability. A high shear line can make the ship look sleek and fast, but it can also reduce the amount of deck space. A low shear line can provide more deck space, but it can also make the ship look bulky and slow. The shear line is also used as a reference line for measuring the height of the ship's freeboard, which is the distance between the waterline and the deck.
