Shaft Coupling

A shaft coupling is a device used to connect two shafts together at their ends for the purpose of transmitting power. In the maritime context, shaft couplings are commonly used to connect the propeller shaft to the engine output shaft. They are designed to transmit torque while allowing for a small amount of misalignment between the two shafts. Shaft couplings can be rigid or flexible, with flexible couplings allowing for greater misalignment and reducing the transmission of shock and vibration. Proper installation and maintenance of shaft couplings is critical to ensure safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
