Salt Glands

Salt glands are specialized organs found in marine animals, such as sea turtles, seabirds, and marine iguanas, that help them to excrete excess salt from their bodies. These glands are typically located near the eyes or beak of the animal and work by actively pumping salt ions out of the body and into a concentrated solution that is then excreted. This adaptation allows these animals to survive in environments where access to fresh water is limited and the surrounding water is highly saline. The efficiency of salt glands varies between species, with some animals able to excrete up to 90% of the salt they consume.
