Hague-Visby Rules
The Hague-Visby Rules are a set of international rules for the carriage of goods by sea. They were adopted in 1968 and amended in 1979. The rules set out the rights and obligations of carriers and shippers in relation to the transportation of goods by sea. They cover issues such as the responsibilities of the carrier, the obligations of the shipper, and the limits of liability for loss or damage to cargo. The Hague-Visby Rules apply to contracts for the carriage of goods by sea between ports in different countries if the bill of lading or other transport document is issued in a contracting state.
