Rudder Pintle

A rudder pintle is a vertical metal pin or bolt that is used to attach the rudder to the sternpost of a ship. The pintle is inserted into a gudgeon, which is a U-shaped metal bracket that is attached to the rudder. The pintle and gudgeon form a hinge that allows the rudder to pivot and steer the ship. The pintle is usually made of bronze or stainless steel, and is designed to withstand the forces of the water and the stresses of steering. Proper maintenance and lubrication of the pintle and gudgeon is essential to ensure smooth and efficient steering of the ship.
