Gudgeon
In maritime context, a gudgeon is a metal bracket or socket attached to the sternpost of a vessel, used to support the pintle of a rudder. The gudgeon is usually made of bronze or brass and is bolted to the sternpost. It has a semi-circular shape with two arms that extend outward to hold the pintle. The gudgeon and pintle form a hinge that allows the rudder to pivot back and forth for steering the vessel. The gudgeon is an essential component of the rudder system and must be inspected regularly for wear and damage.
