Reachrod

A reachrod is a connecting rod that is used to transmit motion from the eccentric to the slide valve in a steam engine. In the maritime context, reachrods are commonly used in marine diesel engines to connect the engine's pistons to the crankshaft. The reachrod is an essential component of the engine's power transmission system, as it converts the linear motion of the pistons into the rotary motion of the crankshaft. Reachrods are typically made of high-strength steel and are designed to withstand the high stresses and temperatures generated by the engine. Proper maintenance and inspection of reachrods are critical to ensure the safe and efficient operation of marine diesel engines.
