Rabbet

In maritime context, a rabbet is a groove or recess cut into the edge of a wooden ship's frame or keel into which the planks are fitted. The purpose of the rabbet is to provide a secure and watertight joint between the planks and the frame/keel. The planks are typically beveled to fit snugly into the rabbet, and then fastened to the frame/keel with nails or bolts. The rabbet is an important feature of wooden shipbuilding, as it ensures the structural integrity and seaworthiness of the vessel.
