Quarter
Quarter is a term used in maritime context to refer to the sides of a vessel aft of the beam, which is the widest part of the ship. The term is used to describe the area between the beam and the stern of the ship. The quarter of a ship can be further divided into port quarter and starboard quarter, depending on which side of the ship they are located. The quarterdeck is a raised deck located at the stern of the ship, which historically was reserved for the use of the ship's officers. In modern times, the quarterdeck is used as a ceremonial area for special events and ceremonies.
