Navigation Satellite System
A Navigation Satellite System (NSS) is a constellation of satellites that provide autonomous geo-spatial positioning with global coverage. NSS is used for navigation, timing, and other location-based services. The system works by transmitting signals from the satellites to a receiver on the ground, which uses the information to determine its precise location. The most well-known NSS is the Global Positioning System (GPS), which is operated by the United States government.
