Navigation Satellite System
A Navigation Satellite System (NSS) is a constellation of satellites that provide autonomous geo-spatial positioning with global coverage. NSS is used for navigation, timing, and other location-based services. The system works by transmitting signals from the satellites to a receiver on the ground, which uses the information to determine its precise location. The most well-known NSS is the Global Positioning System (GPS), which is operated by the United States government. Other examples of NSS include the Russian GLONASS, the European Galileo, and the Chinese BeiDou. NSS has revolutionized navigation at sea, allowing ships to determine their position with unprecedented accuracy and reliability.
