Global Positioning System

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite-based navigation system that provides location and time information in all weather conditions, anywhere on or near the Earth. It is operated by the United States government and consists of a network of at least 24 satellites in orbit, ground control stations, and GPS receivers. GPS is widely used in the maritime industry for navigation, vessel tracking, and search and rescue operations. It allows ships to determine their exact location, speed, and course, and helps to prevent collisions and groundings. GPS also enables efficient route planning and optimization, and enhances the safety and efficiency of maritime transportation.
