Midship

Midship refers to the area of a ship that is located approximately in the middle of the vessel, both in terms of length and width. It is the part of the ship that is equidistant from the bow and stern, and from the port and starboard sides. The midship section of a ship is often the widest part of the vessel, and is an important consideration in ship design and stability. The midship area is also where the ship's propulsion system is typically located, including the engine room and propeller shaft. In naval terminology, a midshipman is a rank given to an officer cadet who is training to become a commissioned officer in the navy.
