Mast Hole
A mast hole is a hole in the deck of a ship through which the mast passes. The mast is secured in the hole by a partner, which is a wooden or metal block that is fastened to the deck around the hole. The partner helps distribute the weight of the mast and the forces acting on it, such as wind and waves, to the ship's structure. The mast hole is an important component of a ship's rigging, as it allows the mast to be raised and lowered as needed for sailing and maintenance. It is also a potential source of leaks and weakening of the deck structure if not properly maintained.
