Lookout

A lookout is a person assigned to keep watch for potential hazards or dangers, such as other vessels, navigational hazards, or weather changes, while on board a ship. The lookout is responsible for maintaining a constant vigilance and reporting any observations to the officer on watch. The lookout must be able to identify different types of vessels, lights, and signals, and must be familiar with the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGS). The lookout is an essential part of the ship's safety management system and plays a critical role in preventing collisions and other accidents at sea.
