Lee Shore

A lee shore is a dangerous situation in which a vessel is being blown towards the shore by the wind. In this situation, the wind is coming from the shore, which means that the vessel cannot sail away from it. The vessel is at risk of running aground or being dashed against the shore. The danger is compounded if the water is shallow or if there are rocks or other hazards near the shore. A lee shore is a situation that requires immediate action to avoid disaster, such as dropping anchor or using the engine to move away from the shore.
