Jack

In maritime context, a jack is a small flag flown from the jackstaff on the bow of a vessel. It is also known as the national ensign or the union jack. The jack is typically a smaller version of the national flag and is flown only when the ship is anchored or moored. It is also flown on small boats that are not large enough to carry a full-sized ensign. The jack is an important symbol of a ship's nationality and is used to identify the vessel's country of origin.
