International Waters

International waters refer to the areas of the ocean that are not under the jurisdiction of any particular country. These waters are also known as the high seas and are located beyond the territorial waters of any nation. The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea defines international waters as the area beyond the 12 nautical mile limit of a country's territorial waters. The high seas are open to all countries and are governed by international law. This means that all countries have the right to use these waters for navigation, fishing, and scientific research. However, certain activities such as piracy, drug trafficking, and illegal fishing are prohibited in international waters.
