Inert Gas Systems
Inert Gas Systems are used on board ships to prevent the risk of fire or explosion in cargo tanks. These systems work by replacing the air in the cargo tanks with inert gas, which has a low oxygen content. This reduces the risk of fire or explosion by lowering the concentration of oxygen in the tank. Inert Gas Systems are commonly used on tankers carrying crude oil, petroleum products, and chemicals. The system is also used on ships carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG) and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to prevent the risk of explosion. The system is designed to be automatic and can be activated remotely from the bridge or the cargo control room.
