Hawse Buckler

A hawse buckler is a plate or shield made of metal or wood that is fitted over the hawsehole of a ship to protect the hull from damage caused by the ship's anchor. The hawse buckler is typically installed on the exterior of the ship's bow and is designed to absorb the impact of the anchor chain as it is lowered or raised. It also prevents the anchor from scraping against the hull, which can cause damage to the ship's planking. Hawse bucklers were commonly used on wooden ships, but are still used on some modern vessels. They are an important component of a ship's anchoring system and help to ensure the safety and integrity of the vessel.
