Hatch Cover

A hatch cover is a removable covering for the hatchway or hatch of a ship's hold. It is designed to keep water out of the hold and protect the cargo from damage. Hatch covers are typically made of steel or aluminum and are secured in place with locking devices. They are an important part of the ship's watertight integrity and must be properly maintained and inspected to ensure they are in good condition. Hatch covers can be operated manually or with hydraulic systems, and can be opened individually or in sections to allow for loading and unloading of cargo.
