Hatchway
A hatchway is an opening in the deck of a ship, through which cargo, stores or other materials are loaded or unloaded. It is usually covered by a hatch cover, which is a removable lid that fits over the hatchway to protect the cargo from the elements. Hatchways are an essential part of the cargo handling process, and they come in various shapes and sizes depending on the type of ship and the cargo being transported. They can be located on the main deck, the weather deck, or the lower hold deck. Hatchways are also used for ventilation and access to the lower decks of the ship.
