Emergency Flotation

Emergency flotation refers to the devices or systems that are designed to keep a vessel afloat in case of an emergency situation, such as a collision, grounding, or flooding. These devices can be either passive or active, and they can be installed permanently or deployed as needed. Passive emergency flotation devices include watertight compartments, buoyancy tanks, and foam-filled spaces, which provide additional buoyancy and stability to the vessel. Active emergency flotation devices include inflatable rafts, lifeboats, and life rafts, which can be manually or automatically deployed and provide a means of evacuation for the crew and passengers. Emergency flotation is an essential safety feature for all types of vessels, and it is regulated by international maritime organizations.
