Broaching
Broaching is a dangerous and sudden change in a vessel's course caused by waves hitting the vessel from the side or stern. Broaching can cause a vessel to capsize or roll over, especially if the vessel is not designed to handle such conditions. Broaching can occur in any type of vessel, but it is more common in smaller vessels with a high center of gravity. Broaching can be prevented by reducing speed, changing course, or deploying sea anchors. If a vessel does broach, the crew should try to regain control by turning the vessel into the waves and reducing speed.
