Breast Rail

A breast rail is a low railing or barrier located at the forward end of a ship's weather deck, designed to prevent people or objects from falling overboard. It is typically made of wood, metal, or synthetic materials and is secured to the deck with bolts or other fasteners. The breast rail is an important safety feature on ships, especially in rough seas or during heavy weather conditions when the risk of falling overboard is high. In addition to its safety function, the breast rail can also serve as a mounting point for various equipment, such as navigation lights, antennas, or radar systems.
