Bounding Angle
Bounding Angle is the angle between the line of sight from the observer to the nearest and farthest visible points of an object. In maritime context, it is used to determine the distance between the observer and the object. This is done by using the height of the observer's eye above the waterline and the height of the object above the waterline. The Bounding Angle can be measured using a sextant or other navigational instruments. It is an important tool for navigation and collision avoidance at sea.
