Bolster Plate
A bolster plate is a thick steel plate that is used to reinforce the area around a ship's hawsepipe, which is the hole in the ship's bow through which the anchor chain passes. The bolster plate is installed on the inside of the hull and is designed to distribute the load of the anchor chain evenly across the hull, reducing the risk of damage to the hull caused by the chain's weight and movement. Bolster plates are an important component of a ship's anchoring system and are subject to regular inspection and maintenance to ensure their integrity.
