Food Chain

In maritime context, the food chain refers to the hierarchical system of organisms in the ocean that rely on each other for food. The chain starts with the primary producers, such as phytoplankton, which are consumed by small zooplankton, which in turn are eaten by larger zooplankton, and so on. The chain ends with apex predators, such as sharks and killer whales, which have no natural predators. The food chain is an important aspect of the ocean ecosystem, as it helps to maintain the balance of marine life. Disruptions to the food chain, such as overfishing or pollution, can have serious consequences for the health of the ocean and its inhabitants.
