Water Ballast System

A water ballast system is a mechanism used in ships to control their stability and draft. It involves the intake or discharge of water into dedicated ballast tanks located in the hull of the ship. The purpose of the water ballast system is to adjust the weight distribution of the ship to ensure that it remains stable and safe during different stages of its voyage. For example, when a ship is empty, it may be too light and unstable, so water is taken in to increase its weight and stability. Conversely, when a ship is loaded with cargo, it may become too heavy and sit too low in the water, so water is discharged to reduce its weight and draft.
