Very High Frequency
Very High Frequency (VHF) is a radio frequency band that ranges from 30 MHz to 300 MHz. In maritime context, VHF is commonly used for ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communication, as well as for navigation and safety purposes. VHF radios have a line-of-sight range, which means that their signals can only travel as far as the horizon. Therefore, VHF is mainly used for short-range communication. VHF radios are required on all commercial vessels and are an important tool for maintaining safety at sea.
