Swash Plates
In maritime context, a swash plate is a component of a ship's controllable pitch propeller system. It is a disc-shaped plate that is mounted on the propeller shaft and can be tilted to change the pitch of the propeller blades. The swash plate is connected to a hydraulic system that allows the pitch to be adjusted while the ship is in motion, providing greater maneuverability and efficiency. The angle of the swash plate determines the angle of the propeller blades, which in turn affects the amount of thrust generated by the propeller. Swash plates are commonly used on large ships and are an important part of their propulsion systems.
