Star

In maritime context, a star is a celestial body used for navigation. Stars have been used for centuries by sailors to determine their position at sea. By using a sextant to measure the angle between the horizon and a known star, sailors can calculate their latitude. The North Star, also known as Polaris, is particularly useful for navigation in the Northern Hemisphere as it is located almost directly above the North Pole. Other stars, such as Sirius and Canopus, are used for navigation in different parts of the world. The use of stars for navigation is still important today, especially in emergency situations when electronic navigation systems may fail.
